Improve Your Home’s Curb Appeal with One or More of These DIY Home Improvements

Everyone where you look, there are DIY ideas on household chores, from baking cakes in the shape of mountains to sewing old garbage bags into purses. Some of these seem interesting but are they really worth the time they take? At Geyser Equipment we have compiled a list of some of the more useful DIY home improvement projects, some of which can be done with nothing more than your pressure washer.

Clean Off Your Home’s Hardscaping

Hardscaping, such as your concrete patio, wooden deck, siding, or other similar areas, can be dramatically improved by a simple cleaning. We recommend using an electric power washer because it allows you to get into any area, no matter how small, without worrying about fumes. Before you start cleaning these areas with your pressure washer, test off a small part of the deck to make sure that you are not going to damage the wood.

Do You Have Dead Grass? Find the Right Solution

There is nothing worse than a lawn that is mostly beautiful but with a few brown spots. Now is a great time to find the right solution to that dead grass. You can do this by replanting those specific areas with new grass. Talk to your local garden center to find out what grass seed will work best for your home. Rake away the dead grass, loosen the soil, seed it, and fertilize it. You can also cover it with hay temporarily to prevent birds from eating the seed. Water the area regularly for two weeks and you should see new grass starting to grow.

Add Mulch, Bark Chips, or Decorative Stone

Spring is a great time to make sure that the mulch or bark chips around your home are still fresh and looking great. If you do not have these, or you are ready for something new, then you may decide to upgrade to decorative stone. It will cost more in the short term, but in the long term it will last for many years. Maintenance only requires raking it and wetting it down each spring. You can buy it by the bag or cubic yard, but we generally recommend having it delivered for optimal convenience.

Install Solar Lighting

One of the easiest and most cost effective ways to bring a smile to the face of everyone who drives up to your home is to have beautiful lighting lining your walkway and driveway. It wasn’t long ago that this would either require expensive wiring to utilize the power to the home, or batteries that needed to be replaced regularly. Today, solar power lighting options abound and are very affordable.
