Thinking of Starting a Water Restoration Business? Read This First

There are many reasons people choose to get started in the business of water restoration. In many cases, a person has experience in this industry and wants to become their own boss. It’s true that it can be a lucrative business but it’s also true that it takes a lot of work and quite a bit of capital. At Geyser Equipment, we can provide a wide range of water recovery equipment and advice but we suggest you read on before making a decision.

Water restoration is an industry worth considering

Many niches within the construction industry are highly affected by recessions. This is not true of water recovery. Why? Because when a pipe breaks, when hail does damage, or when freezing temperatures wreak havoc, home and business owners must invest in water restoration. There’s no end to the number of things that water, fire, or smoke can do to a home – and it will always need to be cleaned up.

There’s money to be made in this niche

Your fees will vary greatly based on where you live and the type of business you open. A general average for a dryout is about $2,500 and that should yield you about 75% in profit. A general average for a rebuild job would be about $10,000 and you’d likely earn a profit of about $5,000. Once again, these are just estimates – your mileage may vary.

It begins with getting the right equipment

While this can be a lucrative career move, remember that there is quite a bit of startup cost. First and foremost you must buy the water treatment equipment. At a minimum, you’ll need a water recovery system that can catch and extract waste water so that you’ll have control of where and when you get rid of your water. This is a must for many reasons, including being in compliance with environmental regulations.

You’ll also likely need a water recycler. Once you’ve collected the water waste when cleaning, the recycler will separate out the oil and the particles from the water. You can then use the resulting water for additional washing purposes. Finally, we recommend a water evaporator. Instead of paying expensive disposal fees just to put your wash water down the drain, a water evaporator can get rid of most of the water in a totally eco-friendly way.
